LSCB approved West Berkshire Universal Safeguarding Training Course covering: basic information on Child Protection and Safeguarding, signs and symptoms of abuse, the referral process, safe practice. The course is for those new to working/volunteering with children and young people and those needing the renew their training (training should be renewed every 3 years). Training is provided by a West Berkshire approve Designated Safeguarding Person Everyone who works with children and young people including voluntary and community workers has a responsibility for keeping them safe. Government guidance is that paid and volunteer staff need to be aware of their responsibilities for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, how they should respond to child protection concerns and make a referral to local authority children’s social care or the police if necessary. The West Berkshire LSCB is responsible for ensuring that a universal training course is available for all who work or volunteer with children and young people.
