Grants are available to registered charities and non-profit organisations in Great Britain for projects that support education, environmental protection, arts, culture, heritage, science, poverty and disability relief, citizenship and community development.

Grants of between £25,000 and £250,000 are available.

Grants are available for one year only.

The Foundation estimates that around 20 projects will be funded over the next year.

Extended Description

The ScottishPower Foundation, a registered Scottish charity operating independently of ScottishPower, offers funding to registered charities and not-for-profit organisations based and working in England, Scotland and Wales. ScottishPower is part of the Iberdrola Group, a global energy company and world leader in wind energy.

Key Criteria

Registered charities and not-for-profit organisations based and working in Great Britain can apply.

Applicants must have:

  • An active board of at least three unrelated trustees.
  • At least one year of published accounts covering a twelve-month operating period that show as received on the relevant Charity Commission website.
  • A set of last published accounts showing their income was greater than £50,000.

Eligability Expendeture

The funding is intended for projects that address at least one of the following themes:

  • The advancement of education.
  • The advancement of environmental protection.
  • The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science.
  • The prevention or relief of poverty and the relief of those in need by reason of disability or other disadvantage.
  • The advancement of citizenship and community development.

Priority will be given to projects that address one or more of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:

  • No poverty.
  • Good health and wellbeing.
  • Quality education.
  • Affordable and clean energy.
  • Reduced inequalities.
  • Sustainable cities and communities.
  • Climate action.
  • Life on land.

Applications are particularly welcomed that strongly address the following strategic priorities:

  • Increasing the Foundation’s support to environmental programmes.
  • Tackling disadvantage and promoting equal opportunities.
  • Addressing fuel poverty and/or energy efficiency.


Funding is not available for:

  • Community Interest Companies.
  • Second or third tier organisations.
  • Organisations whose primary purpose is to give funds to individuals or other organisations.
  • Schools (except for special needs schools), nurseries, pre-schools or playgroups.
  • Animal charities.
  • Charities working only outside the United Kingdom.
  • Medical care or medical research.
  • Projects that take place outside the United Kingdom.
  • The promotion of religious or political beliefs.
  • Short term interventions including conferences, galas, holidays, expeditions and trips.
  • Projects which are primarily based around sports activities.
  • Retrospective costs.
  • Sponsorship or funding towards an appeal.
  • Unattributed project funding.
