Description

Small one-off grants are available to local charities and community groups in Great Britain that are running, or planning on running a project that encourages individuals to take part in some form of physical activity to help improve their physical and mental health and well being.

Value Notes

Around 400 grants of £500 are available in this round.

As part of the grant, recipients will also be awarded 12 months membership with Localgiving to support them with fundraising online throughout the year.


Extended Description

Localgiving and Postcode Community Trust are working together to provide a free annual Localgiving membership and a grant of £500 to small charities and community groups in England, Scotland and Wales.

The aim of the fund is supporting the work of organisations that are engaging hard-to-reach individuals, encouraging them to take part in some form of physical activity to help improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Key Criteria

To access the Magic Little Grants Fund, applicants must:

  • Be eligible to join Localgiving by
    • Having charitable aims that are not solely for the advancement of religion.
    • Operating on local/regional community initiatives and not be a national charity.
    • Having a UK bank account in the group’s name.
  • Have an annual income under £50,000. Priority will be given to organisations with an annual income of under £20,000.
  • Be running physical engagement project - encouraging individuals to take part in some form of physical activity to help improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing.

The following organisations can apply:

  • Registered charities with either the Charity Commission for England & Wales or Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR).
  • Community Interest Companies (CICs).
  • Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs, SCIOs).
  • Social enterprises.
  • Other not-for-profit community organisations.

Eligible Expenditure

To benefit from funding, projects need to meet either of the following themes:

  • Overcoming barriers to participation in physical activities in creative ways.
  • Increasing social cohesion through developing access to sports and other recreational activities.

Grants can be used to support the general running costs of new and existing sports and physical activities. For example, this could include: facilities hire, kit & equipment, coaching qualifications, other volunteer expenses etc.

Applications which will predominantly cover the costs of one-off events or trips must provide details of how they intend to deliver a longer-term impact.

 

Payment Procedure

Successful applicants will receive the grant payment within two weeks of being notified they have been awarded a grant.

Localgiving members can log in to their account to access the online application.

Groups that are not Localgiving members will need to follow the instructions on the Localgiving website to apply for a grant and free Localgiving membership.
