Available grants are usually limited to £2,000, but larger grants up to £5,000 may be considered.

The Elephant Trust offers grant to artists in the visual arts, small organisations and galleries throughout the UK. The Trust aims to make it possible for artists and those presenting their work to undertake and complete projects when frustrated by lack of funds. It is committed to helping artists and institutions that depart from the routine and signal new, distinct and imaginative sets of possibilities.

The next deadlines for applications are 3 April 2018 and 25 June 2018.


Key Criteria             

Funding priority is given to artists in the visual arts, small organisations and galleries within the UK  


Eligible Expenditure

Applicants should submit well argued, imaginative proposals for making or producing new work or exhibitions.


Restrictions

Grants are not available for the following:

  • Arts festivals.
  • Group exhibitions.
  • Charities organising community projects.
  • Students.
  • Educational or other studies.
  • Residencies or research.
  • Symposia or conferences.
  • Publications or catalogues.
  • Projects taking place outside the UK.                                                                                                                            

Application Procedure        

The guidelines can be found on the Trust's website and should be read before starting the application process.

There is no application form, rather groups should provide the following information and submit it by post:

  • Cover sheet which is available to download from the Trust's website.
  • Synopsis of the project (single side of A4, 300 words maximum).
  • Budget (single side of A4) stating:
    • Total cost of the project.
    • Amount requested.
    • Details of other funding applications made.
    • Name, address and email of recipient of grant, if awarded.
  • Brief CV (single side of A4).
  • Visual material:
    • Still images, maximum of eight.
    • Film/video should be submitted as online links.
    • Other visual materials, eg catalogues, press cuttings, only if relevant and may help the Trustees when considering the application.
