Extended Description

Berkshire Community Foundation was established in 1985 and manages funds on behalf of a range of different donors and funding bodies to provide grants to tackle need at the grassroots of the Berkshire community. There is one Expression of Interest form for all of the funds and the Foundation will allocate the application to the most appropriate fund.

The Foundation aims to build stronger communities through giving grants to support the smaller groups which are doing vital work but have real difficulties in raising funds.

The Berkshire Community Foundation aims to:

  • Help build stronger communities and enrich lives.
  • Help local people and organisations manage their philanthropy and charitable giving.
  • Influence the critical issues and needs affecting local communities.

Key Criteria

Eligible applicants are small voluntary organisations or community groups that are established for charitable purposes within the county of Berkshire. Organisations do not have to be registered charities but they should have a structure which will allow for monitoring of activity and feedback to the Foundation.
 


Eligible Expenditure

Funding is available to benefit the following groups:

  • Older people.
  • Children and young people.
  • People with mental or physical disabilities or a long term illness and their carers.
  • Ethnic minorities.
  • Those suffering from addiction.

Match Funding Restrictions

Match funding is not a specified requirement.
 


Restrictions

The following will not receive funding:

  • Medical research or equipment.
  • Sponsored events.
  • Animal welfare.
  • Overseas travel/expeditions.
  • Promotion of religious or political causes.
  • Statutory work (in educational institutions or replacing statutory obligation/public funding).
  • Groups with more than one year's unrestricted reserves.
  • Major capital appeals.
  • Statutory organisations.
  • Individuals.
  • Retrospective applications.

Application Procedure

Expression of Interest forms are available to download from the Foundation's website or complete online, however, applicants are encouraged to contact the Grants team first to discuss the application.

There is one Expression of Interest form for all of the funds and the Foundation will allocate the application to the most appropriate fund.
